‘Downside of bloody play areas’ says Moyle councillor Randal McDonnell

CONTROVERSIAL Cushendun councillor Randal McDonnell has moaned that a £250,000 bill to improve safety for children is the “downside of having so many bloody play areas,” writes Nevin Farrell.

Speaking at a meeting of Moyle Council in Ballycastle, Cllr McDonnell believed ratepayers would be shocked at the cost of putting down “new carpet” at 13 play areas across the district.

Soft surfacing is to put in at the parks and the quarter-of-a-million bill will also pay for new play equipment at Carnduff near Ballycastle.

Council Chairperson, Cllr Cara McShane, said the soft surfacing was the price needed to comply with health and safety.
