Downtown drops anchor at Glenarm

DOWNTOWN Radio presenters will be all at sea aboard a 68ft yacht at Glenarm on Monday in a bid to boost the Cash 4 Kids charity.

Glenarm is the first port of call on a 10-day fund-raising, broadcasting voyage on the Ocean Youth Trust Ireland’s Lord Rank.

The yacht will become a mobile, sea-faring studio, embarking on a journey up the coast, taking off from Belfast on Sunday, June 6 and visiting Glenarm the next day, Ballycastle on Tuesday 8 and Portrush on Wednesday 9 before finishing in Londonderry on Thursday 10.

At each port the presenters will be carrying out their usual studio slots, as well as taking on various tasks in a bid to raise money for Cash 4 Kids. They are counting on the public to go along and make a donation, with the assurance that all the money raised will directly benefit disadvantaged children and young people aged 0-17 in Northern Ireland, with a focus on alleviating disability, combating illness and improving quality of life.

As far as the tasks are concerned, anything goes! Some of the possibilities that have been mentioned range from making and selling of fish and chips to dressing up as the silliest possible pirate.

Whilst at sea the presenters will be getting involved in the daily tasks carried out by the young people that the sailing training charity, Ocean Youth Trust Ireland, work with through their youth development and community relations programmes. Tasks will range from helping with the sailing of the yacht, to cleaning the toilets, and making dinner. All whilst hopefully not being seasick.
