Christopher John Mulligan, 27, a paint plant operator, of Elwood Close, admitted disorderly behaviour and resisting police at Rainey Street car park on May 28.

A PPS lawyer said police on public order duties at 1.55am noticed a female and male arguing and approached when they saw the male, who was the defendant, throw her through the open gates of the nightclub.

He said on speaking to Mulligan he became verbally abusive and struggled with police on being arrested. The barrister said the defendant refused to provide details, but later became compliant.

A defence barrister explained that Mulligan had been to Down Royal Races where he had been drinking all day until about two in the morning. He stressed the defendant was not facing any assault charges.

The lawyer said the defendant had very little recollection of the what had happened in the car park, but had later apologised for his behaviour to the police officers involved.

He added that Mulligan had a “very limited record” having been given a binding over order in 2012.

District Judge Alan White told defendant that he had “far too much to drink” and, in his favour, he at least had the sense to apologise to the police.
