Police were alerted to the fact that the appropriate insurance was not in place for the vehicle being driven by McGillian at the time she was stopped, a prosecuting lawyer explained.

Asked by District Judge, John Meehan, whether she wished to make any comment in her defence, Ms Gillian said: “It was an honest mistake. I thought I was insured.”

In addition to a handing down a fine of £250 in respect of the insurance offence, District Judge Meehan also imposed six penalty points.
