DRD delivers £7 million in road improvements

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy commended staff and contractors for the successful completion of road schemes in 2013/2014 which accounted for a £7million investment in Craigavon’s roads.

Mr Kennedy said: “My Department invested over £130million in structural maintenance, improving many miles of the road infrastructure across Northern Ireland in the last financial year. In particular in the Craigavon borough, despite ever increasing demands on budgets, DRD invested over £7million maintenance works.”

Pointing to DRD’s proposed programme for this financial year he highlighted road resurfacing on Union Street/Tandragee Road and North Street, Lurgan. In addition the Department also carries out a programme of resurfacing works which is implemented on a scheme priority basis; subject to the availability of the necessary financial resource.

Speaking at a meeting with Craigavon Borough Council, Southern Divisional Manager Simon Richardson outlined some of the other significant areas of work completed, including junction improvements on the B2 Derrytrasna Road with the Derrycorr Lane and Lenny’s Road, Lurgan. The Department delivered a total of 50kilometres of resurfacing in the Craigavon Council area at various locations. For more visit: http://www.drdni.gov.uk
