Donald Patrick Christopher Cooper, Ardowen, Craigavon, was also fined £250 for driving with excess alcohol in breath.

The court heard that on September 27 this year at 12.20am police saw a vehicle on the Tandragee Road in Lurgan and it nearly collided with a roundabout. They followed it for a short distance before it turned into Gilpin Mews.

When the defendant got out of the car he was unsteady on his feet and there was a smell of alcohol on his breath.

Cooper failed a roadside breath test and an evidential test gave a reading of 77. He had a previous conviction for a similar matter.

Mr Pat Vernon, representing the defendant, said Cooper had been drinking heavily earlier that day, had arrived home at tea time and gone to bed.

He explained that when he got up later he decided to go to a local garage to get cigarettes, adding that Cooper thought he was fit to drive but it was a bad judgement call.
