Drink driver in Coalisland was almost three times the limit

A Ballygawley man was almost three times the drink driving limit when he drove to Coalisland to visit friends, a court has heard.

Pleading guilty at his first appearance in court was Colm Colhoun, 30, from Church Street.

Police reported spotting a VW Golf on Main Street in Coalisland just before midnight on April 22.

The car - driven by the defendant - did not indicate as it approached the mini roundabout and took on the road feature at a high speed.

It then pulled in to the side of the road where the officers spoke to Colhoun. They noted the signs of alcohol and he subsequently provided a breath sample just under three times the limit.

His solicitor said that her client had been at a family christening in Ballygawley and had drank pints. He then had made the foolish decision to visit friends in Coalisland

District Judge John Meehan handed down a fine of £200 and a two-year driving disqualification. A £15 offender’s levy was also imposed.
