Drink-driving clampdown: six arrests

SIX people were arrested in the South Derry area for drink driving last weekend, according to police.

Between Saturday 14th July and Sunday 15th July, five males and one female were apprehended for driving with excess alcohol in the Draperstown and Magherafelt areas.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson says he is disappointed some people continue to flout the law.

“Drink driving is dangerous and we will continue to make arrests as long as people continue to drink and drive. Despite warning drivers that we have increased patrols in an effort to deter people from drink driving, it is very worrying that some motorists still choose to drive after they have been drinking alcohol putting their lives and the lives of others at risk,” he said.

“I am committed to keeping our roads safer and I will continue to deploy your local Police officers to keep the public safe. If you are involved in thefts or burglaries or if you drink and drive you will be caught and we will put you before the courts. My message is simple: Never, ever drink and drive.”
