Drive-through restaurant approved for Cookstown

COOKSTOWN is set to get a new drive-through restaurant after a planning application has been given the go-ahead by Cookstown Council.

The planning application for the former Daintyfit factory site at 60 Burn Road to build a 3,500 square foot facility with parking and access was approved at a council meeting this week.

Fast food giants KFC or Burger King will be obvious contenders for the site, but Martin Rea from Reamar Properties, who own the site says they are still in talks about which company will actually be established there.

“We think it’s a positive thing for the area economically and for jobs, it could create 40-50 jobs or more,” he said.

“People assume it will be one of the big fast-food places, but we are still trying to work out a deal and haven’t decided on one yet. In today’s marketplace there are some companies that you wouldn’t expect who have shown an interest in the proposed site.”

Councillor Trevor Wilson encouraged the planned development. He said: “Any investment in the Cookstown area has to be welcome, in this economic climate any business is welcome to the town and will bring much needed employment and occupy the old factory’s site too. It has been mostly vacant for some time and used to be a hub of activity in the town so it would be nice to see it used again.”
