Driven round the bend by toilet times

COUNCILLORS in Moyle have been going potty about the opening hours of toilets in Ballycastle.

Cllr Helen Harding told a meeting of council she had received complaints from the public about toilets not being open at busy times.

Cllr Madeline Black said she had received calls from bar owners at the seafront who are fed-up with the public using their facilities.

Cllr Paudie McShane said he shared the concerns of both his fellow councillors.

“It is very unfortunate that toilets are closed early in the evening,” he said.

“I would like to know why this is when in the evening so many people would use these facilities, particularly in the summer.”

A council officer said the toilets remain open to 8pm in the summer.

Cllr McShane asked if they could remain open later, perhaps to 9pm.

The council officer said he would ask the keyholder if this was suitable.

“I feel they should be left open for us to use and for tourists to use,” said Cllr McShane.

“It is light until after 10pm so it would be good practice to have toilets open to a similar time.”
