Driver banned from roads

A Lurgan man was banned from driving for three years last Wednesday at Craigavon Court for excess alcohol.

Richard Leonard Calvert (53) of Beechcroft was also fined £250 and ordered to pay a 315 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on December 17 he was stopped while driving on the Avenue Road.

There was a strong smell of intoxicating liquor on his breath and he failed the preliminary test. He produced a breath specimen two hours later which gave a reading of 97.

He had a previous conviction for a similar offence within the 10-year period. Defence said the previous conviction was seven years ago.

Defence said Calvert had been under stress which was a factor in the offence.
