Driver Challenge 'fiercely contested'

NEWTOWNABBEY Road Safety Committee held its May Fair Driver Challenge Event on Monday, May 24 in the Harrier Way Car Park in Ballyclare.

The event was fiercely contested with participants undertaking a manoeuvrability test and answering road safety questions.

The winners were: 1st Male - Ainsley Steele, Ballyclare and 1st Female - Grace Mairs, Ballyclare. The Overall Winner of the Perpetual Trophy was Ainsley Steele.

“The PSNI brought an added attraction to the event in the form of a flashy boy racer car which had been souped up by them to raise awareness of young people to the dangers of modifying cars. The car has been modified with a lower suspension and a built-in top of the range speaker system instead of back seats and a Playstation and TV in the boot. Needless to say, this created a lot of attention!” said Pat Martin, Chair of Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee.

“The members of the Committee wish to thank the PSNI for its support, Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership for the funding for the event, held as part of Newtownabbey Council’s May Fair celebrations.”

The Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee is the principal voluntary Road Safety organisation in Newtownabbey and its role is to increase road safety awareness in the borough.
