Driver didn’t have insurance

Six penalty points were imposed on a 21-year-old man last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for driving without insurance on January 25 this year.

Patrick McVey, Whitehill Road, Ballyward, was also fined £75 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The defendant admitted having two defective tyres on his vehicle and was fined £50 on each of the two offences.

The offences came to light while he was driving on the Waringsford Road, Banbridge, and was stopped at a vehicle checkpoint.

McVey, who first appeared at court the previous week, said it was a genuine mistake on his part.

He said he had replaced the tyres the day after he was stopped.

He said he had taken out new insurance and the case was adjourned until last Thursday so that he could bring his insurance to court.

The defendant said he had been moving house at the time. His direct debit had been cancelled and the letter was sent to his old address.
