Drivers needed

DOWN Armagh Rural Transport (DART) Partnership, the local rural community transport partnership is seeking to recruit volunteer drivers in order to help support its growing range services to the local community.

DART is a registered charity and provides all services, which include an individual door to door (Dial-A-Lift) transport service as well as a group travel option for community groups in the Craigavon & Banbridge areas on a non-profit basis.

Volunteer drivers can expect to drive either DART vehicles or their own private car.

Most journeys are local but some can be further afield.

Volunteer drivers can give as much or as little time as they like.

Some volunteers do several journeys a week, others help out as and when they can.

For example offering a minimum of one day per week could make a real impact on the lives of local people.

You will receive an HMRC mileage allowance.

In some instances volunteers will even be reimbursed for meals and refreshments on long journeys.

The current volunteer drivers range from students who are looking to gain valuable work experience, to retired people who wish to remain active in their local community.

So if you enjoy driving, have some spare time and wish to make a real difference to the lives of others in your local community then you are just the person DART is looking for.

DART is holding a volunteer recruitment and open day on Monday, April 2, from 10am–3pm.

The event will take place in the DART premises at 37 High Street, Lurgan.

This will be an opportunity for those who are interested to ask any questions they may have.

It will also give them the chance to meet some of the charity’s existing volunteers.

Please contact the DART office for further details of volunteering opportunities. Telephone 3831 7810 and ask for Kerry or Alan
