Driving ban for Coleraine teenager

A COLERAINE teenager has been handed a hefty fine and been banned from driving.

Oran Waring, of Glebe Avenue, appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court last Wednesday.

Waring was charged with driving with no insurance, having no MOT test, failing to display ‘R’ plates and produce a driving licence.

Court heard that the defendant was stopped at a police checkpoint on the Atlantic Road in Portrush at 1.20am on July 27, last year.

Waring admitted having no insurance for the vehicle. Checks revealed that the MOT had expired on the vehicle, and that Waring, a restricted driver, had not displayed ‘R’ plates.

A solicitor said Waring had purchased the vehicle to sell on, and that on the night in question, a friend had called looking for a lift home. The solicitor said that Waring ‘took a chance’ and as a result was stopped by police.

District Judge Richard Wilson warned the teenager that he shouldn’t have been on the road without insurance and imposed fines totalling 350. Waring was also disqualified from driving for six months.
