Driving ban for student

AN art student from Coleraine has been warned about his driving.

Daniel Keenan (25) of Glenbrook Park, appeared before Friday’s sitting of North Antrim Magistrates’ Court, charged with driving with no insurance.

Keenan was stopped by police at a checkpoint on Strand Road in Coleraine on December 1 last year.

Police handed him a fixed penalty notice for speeding, however he was unable to produce his insurance documents.

He reported to a police station in Belfast on December 4, but was unable to produce insurance.

Defence solicitor Ms McDonnell told the court that the incident was a ‘genuine mistake’ and that Keenan thought his insurance covered him to drive other vehicles.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, warned Keenan, who had nine penalty points on his licence, to be ‘more careful’.

He was fined 200 and disqualified for two months.
