Ashley Farrell (18), Mourneview Avenue, Lurgan, was banned from driving for 16 months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He was also fined £150 for driving with excess alcohol on October 11 this year. If he completes a probation course for drink driving the ban will be reduced by four months.

The court heard that at 3am police received a report of a possible drunk driver in Mourneview Avenue and they saw the vehicle in Pollock Drive, Lurgan.

Farrell failed a preliminary test and an evidential breath test gave a reading of 77.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said he had passed his test on March 24 this year.

He explained that Farrell had been drinking at home with friends who lived in Magheralin and he was driving them home.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he had to take into account that the defendant had been driving for such a short time and the high concentration of alcohol.
