Driving disqualification for Coleraine motorist

A DRIVER has been handed a hefty fine for a series of motoring offences.

Russell Warren Cummins (22) of The Crescent, Coleraine, came before North Antrim Magistrates’ Court charged with driving with excess alcohol, having no insurance or L plates and not having an accompanying driver.

Court heard that Cummins was stopped driving at speed towards a police checkpoint in Coleraine on April 17.

Cummins was unable to produce insurance for the Vauxhall car he was driving. It also transpired that he was an learner driver and had no accompanying driver and no ‘L’ plates.

Cummins was arrested and at this point police detected a smell of alcohol. A sample taken at the scene indicated that he was twice over the limit.

Alan Stewart, a solicitor for Cummins, told the court that the father of two wanted to put the incident behind him and set a good example for his children.

Cummins was fined 50 for not having ‘L’ plates displayed, 200 for driving with no insurance, 100 for driving unaccompanied and 250 for driving with excess alcohol. He was also banned for 12 months.
