Richardo Jorge Caeiro Ortiz, Westacres, Craigavon, was fined £250 last Wednesday at the local magistrates’ court for driving without insurance on July 10 this year. He was also given six penalty points.

The offence came to light when he was stopped at 12.20am on the Highfield Road and checks revealed he was not insured. The defendant’s solicitor said he had bought the car shortly before he was stopped and the vendor had told him he would be able to drive fully covered until the date on the windscreen.

He added that this was completely wrong and his client accepted the onus was on him to make sure he was insured.
