Driving without insurance

A £300 fine was imposed on a 31-year-old man last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving without having insurance.

Acacio Jorge Nunes, Church Street, Portadown, was also given six points.

The court heard that on February 1 this year in Woodhouse Street, Portadown, police carried out checks on a car being driven by the defendant and found there was no active insurance policy.

An insurance bureau was contacted and the defendant had previously been insured with them but he was no longer a client.

A solicitor representing Nunes said that a few days prior to being stopped his client had bought another vehicle and had not got round to insuring it. He added that Nunes had got rid of the car.
