Dromore man had stun gun and drugs

Gerard Patrick McConway (58), admitted two offences when he appeared last Thursday.

The first charge is that on December 10 last year he had in his possession a weapon, namely a stun gun, which was designed or adapted for the discharge of electricity or any noxious liquid or gas.

He is also accused of unlawful possession of a class B drug, cannabis, on the same date.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said that given the defendant’s record and the circumstances he would adjourn the case until December 17 for a pre-sentence report.

He added that McConway had a ‘significant and alarming record’ for drugs offences and this was aggravated by possession of this weapon. Judge Copeland told the defendant the court may be considering a custodial sentence.
