Dromore seizure of £120,000 of herbal cannabis welcomed

A man has been charged with possession of a class B drug and possession with intent to supply following the seizure of around £120,000 of herbal cannabis in the Dromore area last Thursday (February 11).

The 61 year old was arrested and was questioned at Lurgan PSNI Station after a car was stopped on the A1 dual carriageway, police finding the cannabis after searching the vehicle.

Lagan Valley MLA Brenda Hale and Councillor Alderman Paul Rankin have welcomed the drugs seizure and commended the local PSNI.

Mrs Hale, who is also a member of the NI Policing board, said: “This seizure is a direct result of Operation Torus which specifically uses local intelligence along with national intelligence to target drug operations.

People have commented to me that there seems to be more drugs than ever now on the streets, but this isn’t the case.

“What we are seeing is more police action being taken directly against drug dealers and the drug problem, using good intelligence.

“I am pleased this police operation has seen more drugs seized as this means less drugs on our streets and more lives being saved.

“I’ve been assured the PSNI are working closely with the National Crime Agency to seize assets of dealers and any monies made through these illegal activities.

“Again I would urge anyone with any information to pass it on.

“We all have a collective and a civic responsibility to keep our streets and our children safe.”
