Dromore woman told police she bought drugs in Belfast

When police searched a house in Dromore they found a quantity of cannabis which a woman said she had bought in Belfast for £80, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Hang Nguyen (32), Bishops Hill, Dromore, was fined £250 for possession of a class B drug and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on April 1, 2013, police carried out a search at a residential property in Dromore and found the cannabis.

Nguyen admitted she had purchased it a month previously in Belfast from a man she did not know.

The value of the drug was £80.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said this was a pre-planned search and asked if there was any known association.

A public prosecutor said there was an ongoing Crown Court case involving a larger cannabis growing operation.

A solicitor representing the defendant confirmed the other person was facing serious charges and that’s why the prosecution felt that a caution would not be appropriate for his client.

He explained that she was originally from Vietnam.

He said she had come to Northern Ireland two years ago to live with her boyfriend.

The solicitor said the amount of drug she had was very small and it was for her own personal use.

She had no previous record.

Imposing the fine Judge Copeland told the defendant she should distance herself from drugs.
