Drop-in centre for young people to open in Carrick

Carrick Connect will be opening their new drop-in centre this weekend.

Expressing his support for the initiative was Mid and East Antrim Borough Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe.

“I am looking forward to hearing Carrick Connect’s founders and volunteer staff telling everyone about their range of services,” Cllr Ashe said.

Carrick Connect Community Support’s aim is to provide a drop-in facility and bespoke programmes for young people.

The organisation was established in October 2014 by two local youth workers, Tracey McNickle and Johnny Ewart.

“We provide an up-and-coming service for young people aged 11 - 25 years and we want to provide a warm, safe and welcoming environment in the form of a drop-in facility,” said Tracey.

Among Carrick Connect’s other services is the provision of a counselling for people of all ages.

“We are proud to have already welcomed on-board four fully trained counsellors as part of our team,” added Johnny.

“The centre will also be providing volunteering opportunities for around 20 people of various ages.

“We also hope to facilitate bespoke programmes for young people and the needs of the wider community,” he said, adding that once the Mayor ‘cuts the ribbon’ and formally declares the facility open, refreshments will be provided.

“Everyone is welcome, so come along and support this worthy cause.”

The drop in centre will open at the Gateway Church, West Street on Saturday (November 28) at 11am.
