Drove at 60mph on Castlewellan Road

A two month driving ban was imposed on an 18-year-old man last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

Graham Truesdale, Bramblewood Drive, Banbridge, was also fined £75 for excess speed on October 16 last year.

A fine of £50 was imposed for misuse of a lighting device.

The court heard he was travelling at 60mph in a 40mph zone on the Castlewellan Road, Banbridge.

Mr Timothy Mayes, representing the defendant, said Truesdale was on his way home when a vehicle came out of Tescos.

He accelerated and did not realise his speed.

He added that the defendant was in the course of getting his tail light fixed and had put on his fog lights.

Mr Mayes explained that Truesdale already had three points on his licence and as a young driver if he got another three, making six, he would have to be re-tested.

He said his client came from a very respectable background and this had been a salutary lesson for him.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said that after taking into account all that had been said and what was contained in references handed in to the court he would impose a short disqualification.
