Drove car without permission

A LURGAN man who drove his girlfriend's car without her permission was banned for six months last Thursday at Craigavon court.

Thirty-year-old Denis Martin Kelly, of Maple Court, Lurgan, was fined 100 and banned for six months for not having insurance on October 14 last year.

He was also fined 50 and banned for three months for taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission, fined 25 and banned for three months for not displaying ‘L’ plates and fined 25 with a three month ban for driving unaccompanied.

He was stopped at Boconnell Lane, Lurgan, and said the car belonged to his girlfriend. He admitted he did not have her permission to drive it and he was only a provisional licence holder.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said Kelly accepted he should not have been driving the vehicle.

Imposing the fines and bans District Judge, Mr Alan White, said Kelly had shown a complete disregard for the road traffic legislation.
