Drove off after a row with her partner

After an argument with her partner a 26-year-old woman drove off but the manner of her driving brought her to the attention of the police.

When she was stopped she admitted she had taken alcohol earlier in the day.

Banbridge Magistrates court sitting in Newry heard last Thursday that at 10.45pm the attention of the police was drawn to a vehicle because of the manner of its driving.

They saw it cross the top of a mini roundabout.

The vehicle then crossed the white line on a number of occasions.

Maginnis who was the only occupant of the car failed a preliminary test and a subsequent evidential breath test gave a reading of 83 – the limit is 35.

A solicitor representing the defendant said that she had been out in Banbridge with her partner.

After consuming some alcohol earlier she took something to eat.

He explained that she had an argument with her partner.

She then fled the scene, foolishly driving the car.

Because of the offence she had lost her job as a care worker.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said this was extremely foolish.

He said that because of the job situation he would not impose a fine and would keep the ban to the minimum of 12 months.

The judge also certified her suitable for the drink driving course.
