Drove without insurance

Shea Patrick Brendan Morgan (24), of Altananam Park, had offences detected at Portglenone in December last year and then two more incidents in the Ballycastle area in January, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told on Monday July 4.

In the first incident he was driving a Renault Scenic and on the next two occasions he was in an Audi A4.

A defence lawyer said the Audi had broken down and the defendant was driving the Scenic on December 14 last year and he had insurance but it was on the wrong car at the wrong time.

The court heard Morgan had “learning difficulties” and didn’t understand the paperwork and had “foolishly” buried his head in the sand but the defence lawyer said his client had not deliberately set out to ignore the law.

The defendant pleaded guilty to three counts of driving without insurance and one charge of failing to produce a driving licence to police within seven days.

Morgan was given a four months jail term, suspended for two years; banned from driving for six months and fined £50.
