Drugs charge man said he was feeling ‘anxious and shaky’

Although he was on Diazepam by prescription a Banbridge man obtained more because he was feeling ‘anxious and shaky’.

Brian Niall Vint (44), Mountview Park, Banbridge, admitted unlawful possession of Diazepam on July 29 last year.

He was sentenced to one month in prison, suspended for 12 months.

Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday that a police search of a house uncovered five small tablets which Vint admitted were Diazepam.

He claimed they had been given to him and that he did have a prescription for the drug but some times he felt in need of more of them.

A solicitor representing Vint said he had relevant previous convictions and in December last year had received a suspended sentence but this offence pre-dated that offence.

She added that the defendant was currently taking Diazepam on prescription from his GP. But, he added, he some times he felt anxious and shaky and was given the opportunity to purchase some more.
