Drugs flushed down sink

When police searched a house a 35-year-old man he tried to flush drugs down the sink and then swallowed lumps of them, Craigavon Court heard last Friday.

Charles Thomas Ward, Moyraverty Court, admitted possession of cannabis, possession of herbal cannabis and obstruction on September 7, 2012.

For the possession charges he was sentenced to two months in prison and a concurrent four month term was imposed for obstruction. The sentences were suspended for two years.

The court heard that police searched an address in Enniskeen and in the kitchen, Ward turned on the tap at the sink to remove the drugs and then took a couple of lumps and swallowed them.

He was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital where he refused medical attention. In custody a quantity of herbal cannabis was found on him.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said that lots had happened in the defendant’s record since this.

A barrister said Ward did have a problem with drugs and was currently on community service which kept him busy and out of trouble.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the pre-sentence report showed the defendant was engaging well with probation.

The lawyer said Ward was on a methadrone programme and trying to wean himself off all drugs.
