Drugs in pyjamas

A father of six who was caught with a small amount of cannabis in his pyjamas has had a two month jail term suspended for two years.

Gavin Duane Hamilton, of Earls Court, Altnagelvin, pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug on February 10, last.

Londonderry Magistrates Court heard that police were called to the 31-year-old's home on another matter and he was taken to Strand Road police station in his pyjamas. The cannabis was found in them during the course of his arrest.

Defence solicitor Leoni Breslin said it was a very small amount of cannabis for Hamilton's own use.

It was revealed to the court the 31-year-old has a previous conviction for supplying class B drugs.

District Judge Barney McElholm also fined Hamilton 200 and ordered the destruction of the cannabis.
