Drugs seized in raids

Houses in Obins Street, Wentworth Green and Coronation Street were among those raided for drugs on Friday, when a quantity of cannabis resin was seized.

A 40-year old man had since been charged with possessing a class B controlled drug with intent to supply and possessing criminal property.

The raid by detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime has been welcomed by DUP councillor Darryn Causby.

He said, “Portadown has in recent years seen a rise in the number of drug related incidents and it is quite apparent from the feedback I am getting from the community that this is a major issue. I am pleased that the PSNI have acted on intelligence and targeted these suspected drug houses.

“Drugs are destroying the lives of the young people in our town and every effort must be made to cut off the supply. I am appealing to all of our communities who are opposed to drugs and drug dealing to forward as much information as possible to the PSNI.”

The 40-year-old appeared at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. A 24-year-old man was released on bail pending further police enquiries.
