Drumbeg WI

It was visitors evening at Drumbeg meeting in March.

Vice President Olive Palmer welcomed everyone including Area Representative Ann McCurdy and guests from several other institutes.

The speaker was Roma Tomelty who spoke on how the Tomelty family had been interested in Theatre in Belfast from 1896. Her father was the well known actor and playwright Joseph Tomelty of the Radio Ulster programme ‘The McCooey’s’ fame. Many members were reminiscing about the programme that ran for seven years and other plays written by Tomelty.

Members were delighted to hear that Barbara Huss had won the Mary Boyd Competition. The winner of ‘Your Interpretation of a Woolly Hat’ was Rosemary Reid with Maureen Lindsay and Anne McAdam.
