Drumming up support

Robin Swann, the Kells based North Antrim MLA has called on the Sinn Fein culture minister to “prove her commitment to equality and support Lambeg drumming”.

Assemblyman Swann noted that the Minister’s Department gives support to the Ulster pipe and drumming schools.

“Would you consider such an appeal from the Lambeg drumming associations as well?” he asked.

In her response to Mr Swann, the minister said: “The Lambeg drumming associations have received funding from the Arts Council, the Ulster-Scots Agency and the ministerial advisory group.

“If there is a demand for additional funding based on evidence of need, the agencies will happily consider that. It is good to see that the Lambeg drumming associations have such widespread support throughout the House.”
