On Thursday, the local authority’s Planning Committee accepted a recommendation by planners to approve the application, subject to relevant conditions.

Senior Planner Kyle Patterson told members that no objections had been received to the proposal, which centred on a small area of open space opposite 11-15 Drumtara, and that Transport NI were content in principle, subject to the inclusion of minor technical details.

The committee heard that the play area will comprise a range of equipment, thermoplastic playground graphics, rubber safety surfacing, hard surfacing, seats, litter bins, removable bollard, mild steel boundary fencing and gates, grassing works as well as the planting of trees and shrubs.
