The court heard that he had left Tesco with items in a bag covered by a coat. Staff at the charity shop identified the coat as one that had been stolen.

When interviewed by police the defendant said he was very drunk and could not remember stealing the items from Tesco. He claimed he had bought the coat but did not receive a receipt from staff.

A barrister for the defendant said the defendant was very drunk at the time.

She explained that he had £74 in his possession and had the means to pay for the goods but he was extremely drunk and confused. He had been in custody for this matter since February 7.
