Warning 18-year-old Kirsty Knox it was important to cooperate fully with the order, District Judge Oonagh Mullan said the order “means you will give some reparation back to the community”.

Knox, from Meadowbank, Tullygally in Craigavon, had pleaded guilty to the hoax call on July 10 last year.

A prosecuting lawyer told Craigavon Magistrates’ Court how three 999 calls were made at around 4am claiming there was a bomb in Craigavon’s Meadowbrook estate.

Searches of the area uncovered a black iPhone in a pink case which had been used to make the call and inquiries revealed it belonged to Knox.

She was interviewed and the lawyer said when the calls were played to her, she “laughed and showed no remorse” for what she said were “prank calls”.

Knox’s defence solicitor revealed the teenager was so drunk she only “vaguely remembers” making the calls which he submitted had no sinister undertones but were rather a case of “silly teenagers under the influence of drunk at four in the morning”.

Imposing the community service order, Judge Mullan told Knox her offences had been a “complete waste of police time, diverting them away from other duties in relation to protecting the public”.
