James McGlone, Millmount House, Banbridge, was fined £200, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy, and banned for 12 months for driving with excess alcohol on February 3 this year.

The court heard that at 1.40pm police received a report of an intoxicated male lying on the ground at the bottom of a grass bank at Milltown House, Edenderry, Banbridge.

Inquiries revealed the defendant had parked a vehicle at the top of the bank.

He lived in a block of flats at the bottom.

McGlone gave an evidential breath sample which had a reading of 99.

A solicitor for the defendant said he had taken drink in his home and gone to the car to get a parcel.

On his way back he fell down the grass bank.

He had been driving earlier.

He added that his client had been driving for 58 years with a clear record.
