Jonathan Irszak, Blackskull Road, Banbridge, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a dog and disorderly behaviour on July 30 this year.

A public prosecutor told Banbridge Magistrates Court last Thursday that at 4.50pm in Downshire Place a man was seen on CCTV behaving in a disorderly manner.

He beat a dog and was shouting at pedestrians in the area. When police approached him he was unsteady on his feet and smelled of intoxicating liquor. The dog was panting heavily.

Irszak told police to ‘f—k off’ and said ‘I know the IRA’.

He continued to shout and swear despite being told to calm down and had to be arrested.

During interview he accepted he had punched and kicked the dog.

Sentencing in the case was adjourned until September 22 so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.
