Drunk man shouted abuse at the police

Thirty six year old Jerome McCann, of Union Street, Lurgan, was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 18 months, for disorderly behaviour on June 30.

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

The court heard that at 2.45am police went to Drumellan Gardens in Craigavion where a house party was in progress.

The defendant and another male who were outside began to shout abuse at police. They were shouting at the top of their voices and singing Republican songs.

The defendant continued to be abusive to police and was arrested.

A barrister for McCann said he had fallen back into a cycle of offending and had some difficulty with alcohol.

On the night in question he went to a party and took too much alcohol.

Deputy District Judge, Mr Peter Prenter, said it was disgraceful behaviour and the defendant had a bad record.
