Nathan Stefan Swann, 21, of Barrack Road, Magherafelt, was fined a total of £235 and banned from driving for 14 months for driving while having consumed excess alcohol on June 25.

A prosecuting lawyer said police on mobile patrol on the Glenshane Road at 3.20am came across a van which had crashed into the road verge.

He explained the vehicle had sustained frontal damage and had a wheel missing.

The barrister said Swann was arrested nearby and taken to Dungannon custody suite where he provided a specimen which showed an alcohol reading of 75mg.

Admitting the offence, a solicitor said Swann had been at a public house and for some reason had decided to visit his girlfriend.
