Drunken man told policemen that ‘Collie Duffy will get you’

A drunk man who was abusive to police told them ‘Collie Duffy will get you’ Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

Twenty five year old James John Bell, of Avondale Manor, Craigavon, admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour on July 24.

The court heard that at 6.20pm in Market Street, Lurgan, Bell, who was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, shouted ‘Up the Ra’ at the police.

He continued to shout and swear in the presence of other members of the public.

When police approached him he said :”F-k off, up the Ra, Collie Duffy will get you.’

A barrister said that a pre-sentence report prepared on Bell was very positive.

Deputy District Judge, Anne Marshall, pointed out that he had probation before and continued to offend.

She pointed out that Bell had every possible sentence and nothing seemed to keep him out of trouble.

But, she added, since there was nothing else since this offence she would give him one final opportunity.

She imposed a period of probation for 18 months.
