Duke of Edinburgh award for Uel

Kilfennan man Uel Hamilton has been presented with a Long Service Certificate by HRH The Earl of Wessex at a special event in Hillsborough Castle.

Uel has been a Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Assessor with the Sperrins Expedition Network for over 20 years.

Drew Hamilton, Duke of Edinburgh Manager for the Western Education and Library Board said: “We are indebted to Uel for his extremely dedicated service and commitment over many years. Uel’s vast experience in the outdoors has been used to considerable effect within the Sperrins Network. I’m absolutely delighted that he has been recognised in this way. Uel has ensured that hundreds of young people have been able to do their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards by his volunteering.”

Duke of Edinburgh NI Director, Kate Thompson, said: “We were delighted that HRH The Earl of Wessex agreed to present Uel with his Long Service Certificate to recognise his service and commitment. Without volunteers, such as Uel, our programme could quite simply not operate and we, and the young people they have supported, owe them a huge debt.”
