Dumper causes disruption in Whitehead

Rail commuters were delayed near Whitehead for over two hours after a dumper truck broke down on the track in February 2000.

The vehicle, which had been part of a project at White Harbour, broke an axle while crossing the track.

Local Translink controller Frank Moore pointed out that the timing of the accident was unfortunate.

He said: “If it happened during the day it would not have been so bad, but the truck broke down just as it was coming into rush hour so there were a lot of commuters travelling either direction who were eager to get home.

“This was a problem which was not of our making, but we sent out special staff as quickly as possible and the truck was towed away from the track.”
