Dunanney Centre is “an absolute mess” after petrol bomb attack

Police in Newtownabbey are appealing for information after a report of a petrol bomb attack at premises at the Diamond.

A PSNI spokesperson said that at 10 minutes after midnight it was reported that a petrol bomb was thrown at a building in the area. It is also believed that a number of stones was thrown and windows smashed during the incident. No one is believed to have been injured during the incident.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and the fire was extinguished.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information to contact them on the new non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Pat Hutchinson, manager of Newtownabbey Citizens advice Bureau, which is based in the building, said the upstairs has been “gutted” by fire and all the windows had been smashed.

“This is the second time this year the building has been attacked and it’s an absolute mess inside,” she added.

The centre was targeted in an arson attack at Easter.
