Dunclug students make history

This year saw the highest number of entrants for examinations in Dunclug College’s history achieving A Level success.

To the credit of both students and their teachers, 100% of pupils achieved a minimum of two passing grades with almost 70% achieving three A Level grades.

Almost 90% of all grades were in the A–D range while just under three quarters of all grades achieved were in the A–C range. Twenty-one per cent of grades were A*/A.

“While last year’s results for a much smaller cohort of pupils were statistically better, the achievement for the current much larger group represents continued steady improvement in the school’s A Level provision and results,” said Dunclug principal, Mrs Ruth Wilson.

“Special congratulations to the following pupils for some excellent individual performances were achieved by Emma Buick, Joseph Gregg, Niomi Archer, Zoe Hayes, Shauna Brennan, Caroline Fleck, Wendy Smyth, Emma Jayne Lavery, Sarah Termonia, Naomi Johnston, Christopher McClean, Stefan Kirkwood, Nicole McFall, Derek McMillan, Conor Newell, Craig Law, Ryan McKay, Sarah Kennedy, Don McAllister, Lauren Gordon, Shelley Wilson, Rebecca Stephens, Rachel McKeown, Katie Simpson, Lauren Fry, Matthew Reid, Sophie McFall and Stuart Erwin.”

Outstanding departmental performances included: Business Administration, Child Care, BTEC Sports, and History – each achieving 100% A–C, followed by Performing Arts, Moving Image Arts and Art, each achieving 80% Grades A–C. BTEC Engineering achieved 78% in this category, together with Religious Studies, 75%, Travel & Tourism, 73%, Health and Social Care 70%, Applied Science 63%, Business Studies 62% and Technology 58%, all of which are significantly above the Northern Ireland average.

The school continued its 100% success rate in the AS Certificate of Personal Effectiveness and is currently awaiting confirmation of its ICT results.

The students are eagerly looking forward to their onwards educational pathways and the Board of Governors, principal and staff of the school wish them every future success.
