Dunfield man accused of ABH

A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend has been released on bail.

Martin McShane, of Dunfield Terrace, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and breaching a restraining order.

The offences were allegedly committed between August 13 and 18.

Londonderry Magistrates’ Court heard the complainant in the case is currently in custody accused of assualting McShane.

Opposing bail, an investigating officer said she could be granted bail at any time and this could lead to further offences.

The officer said the 40-year-old has eight previous convictions for assaulting the woman and there is an ‘extensive domestic violence history’. District Judge Barney McElholm released McShane on his own bail of £1,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged injured party.

McShane is also banned from consuming alcohol, be electronically tagged and must abide by a curfew. He will appear in court again on December 17.
