Dungannon councillor Sammy Brush suffers 39th sectarian attack

The 39th “sectarian attack” on DUP Councillor Sammy Brush at his Ballygawley home in Co Tyrone has been condemned.

Lord Morrow slammed the latest act of intimidation against his colleague “which brings the total to 39 attacks – with not one person made amenable”.

He said that Mr Brush awakened on Saturday “to find his car damaged in another act of intimidation carried out under the overnight cloak of darkness – the trademark tactic of cowards”.

“It is a disgraceful to have to report this latest incident against Councillor Brush, who despite a despicable campaign of harassment and intimidation, stoically refuses to be cowed by the faceless thugs involved.

“It is equally disgraceful that after 39 attacks with not one single person has been detected for this deliberate, sectarian campaign.”

Lord Morrow said the ongoing attacks are “detrimental to his health”.

A PSNI spokesman said police in Dungannon are appealing for information after a report of criminal damage at the Main Street, Ballygawley area overnight on Friday August 15.

He said: “At around 7am on Saturday 16th August, it was reported that a grey Nissan Micra parked in the area was damaged. It is believed the bonnet of the car was damaged and enquiries are continuing.”

Police would like to speak to two males who were outside licenced premises in the area at around 5am on August 16.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact them at Dungannon on the non-emergency number 101.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111
