Dungannon dancer strumming his stuff on harp goes viral

A video of a Dungannon dance teacher playing '˜Shut up and Dance' on the harp has become an internet sensation.

Toe-tapping Gerard Carroll, an Irish dance teacher with a string of accolades, posted the heart-felt video of him singing and plucking the harp on Facebook.

Within 24 hours, he had 13,000 views. The number has now rocketed to almost 33,000.

Astonishingly, the dance maestro only started playing a year ago and has performed for friends at their weddings, but said it was still “very much only a hobby”.

He was delighted that the video has reached such a huge audience, and described it as ‘mental’.

Gerard, who teaches Irish dancing to children in the Dungannon area, including some who have gone on to clinch major titles, says he has received a number of enquiries from people interested in having him play the harp at future events.
