Dungannon farmer fined after failing to report cattle had been stolen

A Dungannon farmer has been found guilty of breaching of cattle identification regulations at court and fined £400 plus an offenders levy.

Philip Richardson, (40), of Stughan House, 27 Augharon Road, Newmills, Dungannon, was convicted at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on 11 April 2016 of one charge of failing to notify the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development within seven days that six cattle were lost or stolen.

Mr Richardson pleaded guilty and was fined £400 plus a £15 offenders levy.

These offences came to light as a result of a Cattle Identification Inspection or herd audit of his herd by Veterinary Service Enforcement Branch.

The Department of Agriculture say breaches of the Cattle Identification Regulations weaken and undermine the cattle traceability system in Northern Ireland, including the integrity of the Department’s Animal and Public Health Information System (APHIS).
